Introduction
To mark Open Data Day 2026, the Open Knowledge Foundation hosted an online conference The Future of Open Data bringing together the global open data community. The event celebrated two decades of CKAN, a pioneering platform developed through OKFN that now powers data portals worldwide.
The conference also explored the evolving role of open data and data infrastructures in today’s rapidly changing technical and political landscape. It brought together participants from government, civil society, journalism, and research communities to discuss challenges, innovations, and the future direction of open data.

The #semanticClimate team was represented by Dr. Renu Kumari, who delivered a lightning talk titled: “Climate Open Data and #semanticClimate”
This presentation highlighted how semantic technologies and open data frameworks can transform climate knowledge extraction, accessibility, and reuse.
About the Talk

- Leveraging open climate data for knowledge discovery and decision-making.
- Demonstrating the #semanticClimate toolkit for extracting structured information from scientific literature.
- Showcasing integration with Frictionless Data standards for interoperable and reusable datasets.

The session emphasized the importance of combining AI, open data, and semantic technologies to enable scalable climate intelligence.
