Insights from the 13th Workshop on Bioinformatics and Drug Design 2026

Date: January 15 - 17, 2026

Introduction

The three-day workshop was organized by the Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) in collaboration with the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Center for Biomedical Research, University of Delhi, with support from a project funded by the Department of Biotechnology.

The program featured expert lectures and hands-on training sessions designed for faculty members, researchers, and undergraduate as well as postgraduate students. The workshop focused on the application of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and core bioinformatics methodologies in the field of drug discovery and biomedical research.

The workshop was conducted in offline mode from 15–17 January 2026 at the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Center for Biomedical Research, Delhi, India.

As part of the workshop, the #semanticClimate team actively contributed to the scientific program through expert talks and practical training sessions. These activities were conducted under the initiatives of the CODATA Task Group to promote open knowledge systems, FAIR data practices, and AI-assisted research workflows in scientific discovery.

Dr. Gitanjali Yadav, Co-founder of #semanticClimate and Scientist at the BRIC-National Institute of Plant Genome Research, participated as an invited speaker on 16 January 2026. Her lecture, titled “Phytochemical Knowledge Extraction, FAIRification & Reuse of Scientific Literature,” highlighted the role of bioinformatics, systems biology, and network-based approaches in extracting and reusing scientific knowledge for drug discovery research.

The session was followed by a one-hour hands-on training workshop conducted by Dr. Renu Kumari, Mandeep, and Priti on “AI for Literature Reviews: A Case Study in Drug Discovery.” The training introduced participants to AI-assisted methods for literature analysis, knowledge extraction, and scientific data organization, demonstrating how computational tools can support efficient evidence synthesis and research workflows.
